Ask for an upgraded room if they're available; the price isn't that much higher than that of an older room, but the beds are larger and firmer, the bathrooms roomier, and the windows better at keeping out street noise.

"Built in 1972 for guests of the Russian Academy of Sciences, this concrete monolith is reasonably cheap and central. Avoid the rooms that haven’t been renovated since 1972."

"Rooms are sumptuous, subtle and spacious. The decor is minimalist: rich, dark hardwood floors and a few modernist paintings, but nothing to detract from the striking city skyline." Full review
