"Mamaison isn't quite as central as Moscow's top-end hotels, such as the Ritz-Carlton and Ararat Park Hyatt, but it is more affordable."
Fodor's
"Rooms at this rather puzzling place at the end of winding ulitsa Pokrovka, all of them suites, pull off that elusive combination of poshness and comfort." Full review
Travel + Leisure
"It bucks the Moscow trend of bigger-is-better, and it’s a bit off the well-trod tourist track—and that’s exactly why this boutique hotel is such a welcome find." Full review
DK Eyewitness
"This hotel’s refreshing style is a modernized blend of 1930s and 1950s design, with plenty of natural light and motifs borrowed from the Moscow metro."
BlackBook
"84 suites designed in British firm Jestico Whiles' signature upbeat mix of Art Deco, 1950's kitsch, and new millennium glam."
Frommer's
"The luxury spa hotel is the perfect choice for business travelers as well as those after a romantic weekend with lots of pampering." Full review

Ask for an upgraded room if they're available; the price isn't that much higher than that of an older room, but the beds are larger and firmer, the bathrooms roomier, and the windows better at keeping out street noise.

"Built in 1972 for guests of the Russian Academy of Sciences, this concrete monolith is reasonably cheap and central. Avoid the rooms that haven’t been renovated since 1972."
