"Avoid standard rooms: A neighboring office block obstructs the view from most, those with small windows feel like prison cells, and the tiny bathrooms don't help."

"These accommodations are cozy, stylish, and quirky all at the same time, designed with plenty of color and contemporary flair." Full review

"Featuring a huge golden apple in its lobby, this impressive five-star hotel is housed in a fine 19th-century building."

"Moscow's first and only modern boutique hotel. Offers everything the bigger hotels have but for slightly less-room service, spa, gym, restaurant, bar, 24 hour business center."

"'Moscow's first boutique hotel'. A classical edifice fronts the street, but the interior is sleek and sophisticated." Full review

Ask for an upgraded room if they're available; the price isn't that much higher than that of an older room, but the beds are larger and firmer, the bathrooms roomier, and the windows better at keeping out street noise.

"Built in 1972 for guests of the Russian Academy of Sciences, this concrete monolith is reasonably cheap and central. Avoid the rooms that haven’t been renovated since 1972."
